Root Canal
If there’s inflammation or infection inside one of your teeth, your dentist may recommend root canal treatment. In fact, it may be the only way to save your tooth.
Do I need root canal treatment?
If you’re experiencing toothache or your tooth is looking darker than the others, it may be infected.
Even if you’re unsure, it’s best to play it safe. Give Haddenham Dental a call and tell us your symptoms. Our experts will make sure you receive the best possible treatment to save your tooth.
What is the root canal?
Teeth have roots which anchor them to the jawbone. Inside each tooth are nerves, otherwise known as the pulp, which sit inside the pulp chamber. The portion of the pulp chamber within the root is called the root canal.
Damage to your tooth can lead to infection of the pulp. If left untreated, this infection can spread and cause an abscess, a pus-filled swelling within your jaw. The pain can be intense and unforgiving.
How does root canal treatment work?
The aim of root canal treatment is to save the pulp and prevent the tooth from having to be removed.
During the procedure, your tooth will be X-rayed to determine the nature and extent of the problem. Your dentist will inject the area with local anaesthetic to minimise your pain and discomfort. They will then clean and fill the inside of your tooth to clear out the infection and prevent further damage.
